What each option actually is

Full-mouth rehabilitation (FMR)

A comprehensive treatment plan that preserves as many natural teeth as possible while restoring function and aesthetics. Typically involves some combination of: root canals, crowns, bridges, gum treatment, orthodontic movement, and selective extractions with individual implants. Preserves proprioception (the sensation of biting through natural teeth) and jawbone stimulation from those teeth.

All-on-4 (or All-on-6, All-on-X)

An arch-replacement protocol: extract all remaining teeth in an arch, place 4-6 implants at strategic angles, and attach a full arch prosthesis. Can be delivered on the same day as the surgery in many cases ("teeth in a day"). Once the arch is restored, the patient functions with an implant-supported full arch instead of individual teeth.

When each is genuinely the right call

FMR is usually the right call when...

• You have 10+ restorable teeth per arch with good root structure and no advanced periodontal disease.
