A 'full-mouth reconstruction' may mean replacing missing teeth, restoring worn teeth, treating bite problems, or creating a cosmetic makeover. Two proposals can use the same headline and include very different clinical work. A useful Colombian dental quote needs more than a perfect-smile rendering: it must tell you which teeth are being treated, why, in what order, and what is left untreated.
Start with a numbered map, not an all-inclusive package
Ask for a dental chart showing existing teeth, missing teeth, active decay, periodontal findings, any root-canal problems, and planned work tooth by tooth. Each line should identify the diagnosis and proposed restoration. If a clinic recommends removing several teeth, request the individual reason and prognosis for each. The American Association of Endodontists emphasizes that patients should be informed about reasonable tooth-preserving alternatives where appropriate.
Separate functional work from aesthetic preferences
Treatment for infection, broken teeth, unstable bite and missing chewing support serves different purposes from shade changes or veneers on healthy teeth. Both goals may matter, but they should not be blended into one opaque package. If the proposal includes an increase in bite height or major bite changes, ask what examinations and temporary testing are planned. Complex cases may require coordination between restorative dentists, endodontists, periodontists and dental laboratories.
Build a staged invoice
A clear estimate distinguishes diagnostics; necessary disease control; provisional restorations; laboratory work; surgery or grafting; definitive restorations; and follow-up. For implants, make sure the fixture, abutment, final prosthesis and any later phase are explicitly included or excluded. For natural teeth, identify root canals, posts/build-ups, crowns and periodontal care separately. State the currency and what happens if the final clinical plan changes after examination.
Timing matters more than a hotel package
Some cases can be completed during a single visit; others cannot safely be finished before healing, laboratory verification and bite assessment. A plan that requires a second trip should name the purpose of each visit and who will maintain temporary restorations meanwhile. Leave enough flexibility for remakes and adjustments. A highly detailed written plan is more valuable than a promised one-week transformation.
Use the same tooth-identification system across clinics
An international patient may receive records using different numbering systems. Ask each clinic to include a tooth diagram as well as the numbers so there is no ambiguity about which tooth will be extracted, treated or crowned. Request a legend for missing teeth and previously restored teeth. When you share this with a second dentist at home, the visual map can reveal inconsistencies that are easy to miss in a long invoice and may prevent a costly misunderstanding.
What to request before a deposit
- A numbered chart listing diagnoses and planned treatment on every affected tooth
- A separate line for each implant component, crown, bridge, provisional and graft
- The names and roles of clinicians and labs responsible for different stages
- An explanation of tooth-saving alternatives and foreseeable failure scenarios
- A document showing what the fee excludes, who pays for changes and when the refund rules apply
