Most veterans pay for their own dental work. You can pay less.

About 26% of veterans enrolled in VA health care are eligible for VA dental care. Check where you stand in two minutes, then compare your options, including treatment in Medellín, Colombia.

VA health care and VA dental care are separate benefits

Enrolling in VA health care doesn't make you eligible for VA dental care. Dental eligibility follows federal rules (38 CFR 17.161) that sort veterans into dental classes, and most classes cover narrow situations.

In February 2026 the VA said it is building a new national community care dental network. That network serves veterans who are already eligible. It doesn't change who qualifies.

How a quote works

  1. Send what you have

X-rays, a panoramic scan or clear photos of your teeth, plus a short note on what's bothering you. WhatsApp is fine.

  2. Get a written plan

A Medellín dentist reviews your records and sends an itemized treatment plan and price. Ask anything before you agree to anything.

  3. Plan the trip

Implant work often happens in stages, with healing time between visits. Your plan should say how many visits you'd need and how long each takes.

  4. Treatment and records

Keep copies of every X-ray, record and receipt. Your dentist at home will want them.

Service-connected dental condition and living abroad? The VA's Foreign Medical Program may reimburse treatment of rated service-connected conditions outside the US.

Questions veterans ask

Does enrolling in VA health care give me dental coverage?

No. VA dental care has its own eligibility rules. Of the nearly 9 million veterans enrolled in VA health care, about 26% are eligible for VA dental care, according to the VA.

Will the VA pay for dental work I get in Colombia?

Usually not. The VA's Foreign Medical Program pays for care abroad only when it's for a VA-rated service-connected condition, or a condition the VA decides makes one worse. Routine dental work is covered only if your dental condition is itself service-connected. How the Foreign Medical Program works.

What is VADIP?

The VA Dental Insurance Program lets veterans enrolled in VA health care, and people enrolled in CHAMPVA, buy dental insurance at a reduced cost. It's private insurance, so read the plan's coverage for implants, its yearly maximum and any waiting periods before you buy.

Is a bill in Congress going to change VA dental eligibility?

The Dental Care for Veterans Act (H.R. 210) would phase in dental care for every veteran enrolled in VA health care over four years. It hasn't become law. What the bill would change.

Is Colombia Dentist part of the VA?

No. We're an independent referral service, not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
